- To ensure that the 458 Challenge is fit and spry for race competition, significant work was done into cutting the cars weight. This focused on both the exterior and interior with Ferraris engineers concentrating in particular on reducing the thickness of the bodyshell panels and on using lightweight materials, such as carbon-fiber and Lexan (plastic polycarbonate for the windows).
- The Ferrari 458 Challenge comes with a direct injection 4.5-liter V8 engine thats the same one found in the production version with the engine producing an output of 570 horsepower at 9,000 rpm.
- The 458 Challenge is also equipped with the E-Diff electronic differential already employed on the production version of the 458, a first for Ferraris track-only cars.
-The 458 Challenge is the first Ferrari Challenge model to use the F1-Trac traction control system, which has been developed in-house by Ferrari. For this car, the system offers two track-biased modes - wet and dry. The F1-Track is completely integrated within the E-Diff.
